If there is a baby in your home, your laundry needs specific attention. Nuncas will tell you how, based on the result you want to achieve.

When you arrive home with your first baby, your laundry multiplies in quantity; this is when you start to worry about the best way to wash baby’s clothes and how often you should do your laundry. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ rule, however there are certainly a number of great tips you can base your own knowledge on.

During the first few months of life, your baby is naturally protected, especially if you are lucky enough to be able to breastfeed. During weaning is when he begins to have his first “reactions” to the outside world. However be careful, don’t rush to sterilise everything around him, this is a natural progression that will gradually help him to develop his own immune defences.

At this stage of his life, your baby will also begin to react to allergens: as regards laundry, the most common allergens are fragrances, preservatives and other ingredients in detergents. It is therefore crucial to choose a line of hypoallergenic detergents to avoid redness, itching and contact dermatitis, which are very common these days because of smog. You should also pay careful attention to selecting a fabric softener without allergens. Because the softener is added to the last rinse, it remains on your clothes and therefore comes into direct contact with your skin! Nuncas has developed its Natural Collection, which does not contain any allergenic substances (dermatologically tested) and is also 100% plant based: Natural Laundry Detergent, Natural Hand Wash Detergent and Fabric Softener.

Heavily soiled garments, such as wet bodysuits due to nappy leakage, sheets, stained bibs, etc. should be washed immediately where possible and, in this case, you can add one tablespoon of active oxygen laundry additive, such as Nuncas’ Smackia All Stains, which removes stains and sanitises at the same time.

Any small delicate items that you wash by hand, such as the tiny blouses and embroidered socks, can be washed in warm water with Natural Hand Wash Detergent, a product specifically designed to ensure effective results when washing by hand. If your baby wears woollen clothes, use a specific product that both cleans and softens these garments, preventing any irritations when your baby’s skin comes into contact with wool. Nuncas has a product specifically designed for this purpose: WOOL 1 is a detergent that can be used either for washing by hand or in a washing machine. Choose a low temperature (if you wash by hand, you should be able to dip your hand in the water without feeling either cold or hot), rinse the garments very well, and finally stretch them out and leave them to dry on a flat surface.
